Kaylah Jetton, who has a B.A in Global Studies in the Arts and Humanities from the College of Arts & Letters won a Fulbright Grant for English Teaching Assistantship. 

As Fulbright participants, grantees will study, conduct research and teach abroad for the 2022-23 academic year through the Fulbright U.S. Student Program. Recipients of Fulbright awards are selected in an open, merit-based competition that considers leadership potential, academic and/or professional achievement and record of service. 

Here’s what Jetton had to say about what receiving this grant means to her:

“Receiving a Fulbright Award is a great honor and blessing for me. I was beyond excited when I opened the acceptance letter. I applied during the height of the coronavirus pandemic and had been unemployed for some time. Due to travel restrictions placed on the United States, I was unsure if I could make my career ambitions a reality. My long-term goals are to attend graduate school and become a Foreign Service Officer, but the prospect of venturing abroad seemed increasingly unlikely. As a Fulbright Finalist, not only will I have the chance to teach my native language to students in Laos. I will also serve as a cultural ambassador to the United States while deepening my regional knowledge of Asia and learning more about the public diplomacy section of the U.S. Embassy in Vientiane.

Thank you to the Institute of International Education (IIE), the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, and the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board for selecting me for this prestigious opportunity. I would also like to thank the advisors, teachers, colleagues, and friends who assisted me on this journey.”
