On February 28 at 12:40 in room B-243 Wells Hall, Avishek Ray will be giving a presentation on “Roma Historiography and its Sticky Association with India.” While many scholars claim that the European Roma people originated from India, this claim is not conclusive. The presentation will consider what are the epistemological implications of such claims,, especially if they are not endorsed unequivocally by the Roma themselves?
Avishek Ray teaches at the National Institute of Technology Silchar (India). He is the author of The Vagabond in the South Asian Imagination: Representation, Agency & Resilience (Routledge, 2021) and co-editor of Nation, Nationalism and the Public Sphere: Religious Politics in India (SAGE, 2020). In 2021, he was awarded a Fulbright-Nehru Academic and Professional Excellence Fellowship.
We hope to see you there!
